Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders with evidenced productive and negative symptoms and signs, affective disorders (treatment of aggravations, supporting or long-term anti-relapse treatment), acute manic or mixed attacks during bipolar affective disorder with/without quick change of phases.

4. Action

Zyprexa improves the state of a patient in such "negative" symptoms of schizophrenia as apathy, emotional fall, lack of satisfaction and loss of orientation better than previous psychotropic drugs. In moderate doses it is unlikely than new anti-psychotic drugs make a negative impact on vestibular apparatus and tonus of muscles, but in higher doses these drugs may provoke severe negative effects.

5. Posology and Administration

Orally, regardless of meal, once a day. Schizophrenia: the starting dose is 5–10 mg/daily. An increase of the dose on the 4-th–5-th day of the treatment up to 15–20 mg/daily is possible. Acute mania in bipolar disorder: the starting dose 15 mg/daily, the range of daily doses is 5–20 mg. for patients with severe kidney failure, likewise with liver failure of average severity level and for elderly people the starting dose is 5 mg/daily.

Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, breastfeeding.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Kidney and/or liver failure, benign hypertrophy of prostate gland, convulsion states in anamnesis, Parkinson disease, cerebrovascular disorders, Alzheimer disease, diabetes, eosinophilia, diseases of bone marrow, intestinal obstruction, closed-angle glaucoma, excessive loss of liquid, myocardial infarction in anamnesis, heart failure, cancer of lacteal gland, including those in anamnesis, pregnancy, age under 18 years (security and efficiency are not determined).

In order to except the perils of emergence of adverse interactions when Zyprexa is used with other drugs do not attempt to cure you without participation of a doctor.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms: nausea, aspiration, excitement, aggressiveness, drowsiness, speech confusion, extrapyramidal disorders, respiratory failure (depression of inspiratory center), disorders of arterial tension, tachycardia, arrhythmia, cardiac standstill and respiratory arrest, impairment of consciousness, depression of central nervous system (from indifference to coma), hallucinations, convulsions, malign neuroleptic syndrome. The minimal dose in acute lethal outcome overdosage is 450 mg, whereas the maximal dose in favorable outcome overdosage (survival) is 1500 mg.
Do not drink alcoholic beverages and do not take other drugs that provoke drowsiness.

10. Side Effects

Dilutive problem, pains in the chest, agitation, aggressiveness, rigidity of legs, dizziness, excessive salivation, fever, tachycardia or arrhythmia, flaps of the hands, pains in stomach, back, chest, joints or throat, anxiety, edemas of legs, tremor of limbs. Constipation, drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea or vomiting, sleep disorder, excessive perspiration, change of vision, increase of the weight.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

For pregnant women the drug should be used with caution; a would-be favor for the mother and a potential risk for the fetus must be measured. During the treatment breastfeeding should be stopped.

12. Driving
