3. Indications for Use.

It is used as a photosensitizing drug in photochemotherapy (PCT) of:
psoriasis;
lichen rubber planus;
lymphoma (mycosis fungoides);
vitiligo.

5. Posology and Administration

To be taken orally with milk or nonfat food, 1.5-2 hours before UV-irradiation 3-4 capsules (30-40 mg), in one intake. A course should be protracted 1-3 months. Before evidence of performance an exposure to light is needed. In the start of the therapy an exposure of UV-irradiation should be limited within 5 minutes, with gradual increase up to 30 minutes.
Do not expose the body to sunlight 24 hours before Methoxsalen therapy and a successive phototherapy. After therapy it is recommended to wear sunglasses during 24 hours (in order to prevent the development of cataract) and avoid exposure of sun rays during 8 hours. During an irradiation session a patient should wear sunglasses; only 1/3 of a supposed dose of irradiation should affect the skin of stomach, breast and genitals.

6. Counterindications

Hypersensitivity, blood diseases, malign and benign tumors, melanoma (including in anamnesis), liver and kidney failure, diabetes, high photosensitivity (systemic lupus erythematosis, gepatho-porphyria, pigmental xerodermia, albinism), eye-lesion, aphakia, lactation period, pregnancy, childhood (up to 12 years of age)

8. Interface with Other Medications

Incompatible with the other medications of photosensitizing action. In order to avoid severe side effects tell your doctor about all the drugs which you use or plan to use simultaneously with Methoxsalen.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms: the above-mentioned side effects enhancement is possible. If you suspect an overdosage of the drug call your doctor immediately.

10. Side Effects

Dizziness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, skin blush, skin itching, burns (in excessive exposition of UV-irradiation), nervousness, insomnia, depression. In a long-term administration in high doses there may be symptoms of skin ageing, cataract, cancer of skin.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Counterindicated in pregnancy. During the treatment it is insistently recommended to stop breastfeeding.

12. Driving

It is unadvisable to drive vehicles or other machinery which requires alertness, as one of the possible side effects may be dizziness.
