4. Action

Quinapril takes vasodilatory action, decreases heart preload and afterload, likewise it decreases pulmonary arterial resistance; the increases volume of the heart per minute and effort tolerance.

5. Posology and Administration

Quinapril is administered for adults, for oral administration. Usually the starting dose is 0,01 g 1-2 times daily. If the arterial tension is not normalized, a dose may be increased up to 0,02 g a day. Further increase of a dose may be done in 3 weeks. The maximal single-shot dose is 0,02 g, a daily one is 0,04 g.
A daily dose may be administered single-shot or may be divided into 2 intakes (in the morning and in the evening), regardless of meal.
The length of the course should be determined individually.

6. Counterindications

Quincke’s edema, evidenced compromised liver and kidneys functions, double renal arteries stenosis or a single kidney arteriostenosis, the state after kidney grafting and other various obstacles to blood outflow from the left ventricle, pregnancy, hypersensitivity to Quinapril.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Hypersensitivity to Quinapril, liability to edemas, stenosis (diminution) of kidney arteries, the state after kidney grafting, diminution of aorta, diminution of mitral valve, non-inflammatory autopathic or disputable heart diseases, hormonal disturbance, pregnancy, breastfeeding. Quinapril should not be administered to children less than 14 years of age. Patients whose activity requires alertness and rapid response (drivers of vehicles, machinery operators, etc), should take caution while Quinapril therapy. One should refrain from alcohol during Quinapril therapy.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms: acute arterial hypotension.

10. Side Effects

Dizziness and headache are possible. Drop of arterial tension while moving from horizontal position into a vertical one. Disorders of cardiac rhythm, aggravation of ischemic heart and brain disease, impairment of peripheral circulation, sleep disorder, buzzing in ears, nausea, diarrhea, cough, in rare cases there may be compromised kidneys function. In specific cases there may be progression of angioneurotic (allergic) edema; leucopenia (decrease of the level of leukocytes in blood). Other side effects are possible.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Quinapril is counterindicated in pregnancy. During the treatment breastfeeding should be stopped.

12. Driving

Quinapril should be administered with caution in patients whose activity requires alertness and rapidity of psychomotor action, especially in the beginning of the treatment, likewise while moving of other medications.
