5. Posology and Administration

Pioglitazone is indicated orally, adults should take it once daily regardless of meal. The drug dose should be selected individually. The starting dose of Pioglitazone is 15 mg; if needed it may be increased up to 15–30 mg once daily. A monotherapy maximal daily dose is 45 mg daily, a combined therapy one is 30 mg daily. Insulin combined therapy starting dose of Pioglitazone is 15–30 mg daily; an insulin dose remains the same or decreases by 10–25%.

6. Counterindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of Pioglitazone, acute aggravation of sugar diabetes, the period of pregnancy and breastfeeding. Age less than 18 years (safety and efficiency of use in this age group of patients are not determined).

The treatment should be carried out in combination with diet therapy and bodily exercises.

8. Interface with Other Medications

9. Overdosing

Overdosing is manifested with enhancement of side effects, likewise with a low level of sugar in blood. The treatment will be symptomatic.

Significant deflation of sugar level in blood, anemia, complete compositional disorder of blood, headache, inflammation of accessory sinuses of nose, pain in muscles, integrity damage of tooth enamel, inflammation of pharynx.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Pioglitazone is counterindicated in pregnancy. During the treatment breastfeeding should be stopped.

12. Driving

In the starting period (should be determined individually) of Pioglitazone therapy it is prohibited to drive vehicles or implement trauma hazardous works. The grade of prohibition will be determined in each specific case.
