- Indications for Use.
Infections of respiratory passages (bronchitis, pneumonia), of ENT organs (sinusitis, pharingitis, otitis media, laryngitis), of skin, soft tissues, bones, joints, infectious-inflammatory diseases of abdominal cavity and bile passages (but for bacterial enteritis), kidneys (pyelonephritis), urinary tracts (cystitis, urethritis), pelvic organs (endometritis, salpingitis, oaritis, cervicitis, parametrit, prostatitis), genital organs (coleitis, orchitis, epididymitis), gonorrhea, chlamidiosis, septical fever (for intravenous introduction only), meningitis, prevention of infections in immunological status dysfunction patients (including neutropenia).
- Action
The drug acts bactericidially, interrupts bacteria’s DNA, conduces their destruction.
- Posology and Administration
The doses are to be chosen individually in compliance with the localization and severity of the process of infection, likewise it depends on the sensitivity of microorganisms, general condition of a patient and the function of liver and kidneys.
For oral administration: in adults 200—400 mg daily, treatment course is 7—10 days, repetition factor is twice a day. A dose up to 400 mg a day may be administered in one intake, preferably in the morning. A daily dose is 200—800 mg. In gonorrhea it is administered 400 mg single-shot.
In compromised liver function the maximal daily dose is 400 mg. In compromised kidney function it is 50—20 ml/min. Tablets are to be administered in whole, rinsing with water before meal, or after it. The length of the treatment course will be determined by the sensitivity of the causative agent and a clinical picture; the treatment should go on as a minimum 3 days after disappearance of the disease symptoms and complete normalization of the temperature. In salmonellosis treatment the course of treatment is 7—8 days, in uncomplicated infections of lower urinary tracts the treatment course is 3—5 days.200 mg/daily (in 2 intakes or once daily); in CK of less than 20 ml/min — 200 mg every 48 hours.
- Counterindications
Epilepsy. Pregnancy. Breast feeding. Childhood and adolescence less than 18 years of age (until the skeleton growth has not completed). Hypersensitivity to the drug.
- Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…
With caution it is administered in atherosclerosis of the brain vessels, strokes, compromised kidneys functions. In the treatment period patients should not be subjected to ultraviolet irradiation.
In patients of over 65 years of age Ofloxacin is very slow to excrete that is why they are recommended to take under doses of the medicine.

- Overdosing
Symptoms: dizziness, mental fog, retardation, disorientation, drowsiness, vomiting. Headache, dizziness, diffidence of movements, convulsions, numbness and crispation of limbs, heavy dreams, “nightmare” dreams, psychotic reactions, anxiety, excitement state, phobias, depression, confused consciousness, hallucinations, high intracranial tension. Blood formation disorders and that of blood composition. Disorders of color perception, disorders of taste, sense of smell, sense of hearing and equilibration, allergic shock, skin rash, itching, hives.
Others: dysbacteriosis, superinfection, vaginitis.

Ofloxacin is counterindicated in pregnancy, likewise in the period of breast feeding.
