Nortriptyline
- Indications for Use.
The drug is indicated for use in depressive phases of manic-depressive illness, all other forms of depressions (reactive and neurotic). It is used for the treatment of the depressions developed during schizophrenic insanity therapy. It treats bed-wetting and premenstrual syndrome.
- Action
The drug takes antidepressive mitigative action, it is efficient in the treatment of enuresis (bed-wetting), and sometimes it is administered as a light painkiller.
- Posology and Administration
This drug should be administered by a qualified medical doctor only, and the therapy should be under a strict control. A dose rate should be chosen individually. The treatment is to be started from low doses; elderly patients should get lower doses.
An average dose is 75-100 mg/daily, (1 dragee 3-4 times). It is not recommended to overshoot a dose of 150 mg/daily.
When positive results of cure are achieved the dose is to be gradually decreased to a minimal supporting one.
Do not take a double dose if you have missed your dose.
- Counterindications
Counterindications; myocardial infarction, depressions with anxiety-restless syndrome (suicidal attempts), simultaneous use of other medication without doctor’s order, pregnancy, breastfeeding, preschool age, glaucoma, inflammation of prostate gland with urination retention, severe cardiac failure, high arterial tension, paralytic ileus, attack of ulcer disease.
