3. Indications for Application

Trichomonas vaginitis and urethritis in women, trichomonas urethritis in men, lambliosis, amebic dysentery; anaerobic infections provoked by microorganisms sensitive to Metronidazole. Combined therapy of severe mixed infections. Prevention of infectious complications in surgical interventions (especially in abdominal cavity organs and urinary tracts). Chronic alcoholism. At clinic conditions: chronic gastritis in an attack phase, gastric ulcer and peptic ulcer disease in an attack phase.

4. Performance

Metronodazole is used for the treatment of some severe infectious diseases provoked by bacteria or animalcular agents. This drug is not efficient in cold in the head and flu.

5. Mode of Administration

The drug is to be taken orally.
In amebiasis Metronidazole is to be administered during 7 days 1,5 g daily in 3 intakes to adults; to children 30-40 mg/kg of the body mass a day also in 3 intakes.
In lambliosis the drug is administered during 5 days – adults 750-1000 mg a day, children 2-5 years of age 250 mg a day, children 5-10 years of age 375 mg a day and children 10-15 years of age 500 mg a day. The drug should be taken after meal 2-3 times a day.
In trichomonas in women (urethritis and vaginitis) Metronidazole is to be administered single-shot in a dose of 2 g or as a protracted treatment during 10 days: 1 tablet (250 mg) 2 times a day. Along with intakes by mouth in the evening is to be administered 1 vaginal suppository or a vaginal tablet, containing 250 mg of Metronizadole each.
In order to exclude a possible reinfection it is necessary to administer therapy of the sex partners simultaneously. The course of treatment is to be repeated in 4-6 weeks if needed.
In trichomonas in men (urethritis) Metronidazole is to be administered single-shot in a dose of  2 g or as a protracted treatment during 10 days: 1 tablet (250 mg) 2 times a day.
In non-specific vaginitis there used 500 mg of Metronidazole 2 times a day during 7 days.
While treating anaerobic infections in adults Metronidazole is administered 1-1,5 g a day, in children – on the basis of 20-30 mg/kg of the body mass a day.
For elderly people over 65 years of age approximately as for children of earlier adolescent period.

6. Contra Indications

Hypersensitivity to the drug. Organic diseases of central nervous, failure of functions of liver and kidneys. Blood diseases. Pregnancy and breastfeeding period. It is counterindicated to take alcoholic beverages during Metronodazole therapy.

Nausea, vomiting, stomach-ace, diarrhea, unpleasant metallic off-flavor, headache, dizziness, faintness, loss of coordination, impairment of consciousness, epileptic attacks, elevation of temperature, skin rash and itching, dark color of urine, allergic reactions, thrombophlebitis (after intravenous introduction).

The drug is counterindicated in the period of pregnancy and lactation.
