Enterobiasis, ascariasis, hook worm disease, strongyloidosis, whip-worm infection, flesh worm disease, pork tapeworm infection, echinoccocosis, mixed helminthoses.
Anthelminthic pluripotential agent; the drug is most efficient in the treatment of enterobiasis. Mebendazole favors irreversible damage of utilization of glucose in the helminth’s body and hampers the synthesis of ATP (adenosine triphosphate). The drug does not absorb in the intestinal canal and is practically fully discharges with feces.
For adults and children over 10 years of age suffering from enterobiasis the drug is to be administered single-shot in a dose of 100 mg. For children of the age from 2 to 10 years – single-shot in a dose of 25-50 mg. In case of high probability of reinvasion the drug is to be repeated any other 2-4 weeks in the same dose. It is recommended to treat all the family members simultaneously. In ascariasis, whip-worm infection, flesh-form disease, pork tapeworm infection, strongyloidosis and mixed helminthoses the treatment is to be administered in the morning and in the evening 100 mg during 3 days. In flesh worm disease the treatment is to be administered 200-400 mg 3 times/daily during 3 days, whereas from the 4-th to the 10-th day it should be administered 400-500 mg 3 times/daily. In echinoccocosis it should be administered 500 mg 2 times/daily in the first 3 days, then in the same dose 3 times/daily in the following 3 days. Later on it is administered in a dose of 25-30 mg/kg/daily in 3-4 intakes.
Manifested disorders of liver functions; pregnancy, lactation, childhood (under 2 years of age); hypersensitivity to Mebendazole.
During 24 hours after Mebendazole therapy it is prohibited to take alcohol. After the acceptance of Mebendazole a detersive remedy should not be administered. In long-term acceptance it is necessary to control the picture of peripheral blood, liver and kidneys functions. The drug therapy reduces the insulin need in diabetes patients.
Simultaneous therapy of Mebendazole and other medications should not be done without doctor’s order.
Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain in intestinal tract region. In long-term therapy and in high doses: inversive disorders of liver function, hepatitis, neutropenia.
In rare cases – nausea, pains in the stomach. If high doses are taken during a long period of time vomiting, diarrhea, headache, allergic reactions are observed. Liver function disorders may be noticed, likewise blood formation impairment.
Mebendazole is prohibited to use during pregnancy, adoption to bottle feeding is needed during lactation.
