3. Indications for Use.

Bacterial infections provoked by sensitive causative agents: infections of upper air passages (bronchitis, pneumonia, empyema, lung abscess), infections of ENT-organs (sinusitis, tonsillitis, otitis media), infections of bile passages (cholangitis, cholecystitis), intestinal infections (dysentery, salmonellosis, salmonella carriage state), infections of genitourinary system and pelvic organs (pyelonephritis, pyelitis, cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis, cervicitis, salpingitis, salpingo-oophoritis, tubo-ovarian abscess, endometritis, bacterial vaginitis, septic abortion, childbed fever, pelvic peritonitis, soft chancre, gonorrhea), infections of skin and soft parts (rose, impetigo, postprimary infected dermatoses, abscess, phlegmon, wound infection), osteomyelitis, endocarditis, meningitis, sepsis, peritonitis, after-surgery infections, infection prevention in surgery.

4. Action

Plurypotential hybrimycin of bactericidal performance, favors the treatment of infections of various kinds.

5. Posology and Administration

To be taken orally (the doses are quoted in conversion to Amoxycillin), dosage regimen is to be set individually depending on the severity of the disease process, infection localization and sensitivity of the causative agent. Adults and adolescents older than12 years of age are administered 250 mg 3 times daily. If a process of infection is severe - 500 mg 3 times a day or 1 g 2 times a day should be administered. Children under 12 years of age should receive it in the form of suspension, syrup or drops, to be taken orally, 3 times a day. A single dose is set depending on the age: for children of 7-12 years of age - 250 mg, for children of 2-7 years of age - 125 mg, for babies of 9 months-2 years - 62.5 mg, the number of intakes is 3 times a day. In severe cases doses may be doubled. Doses in oral administration for children 9 months - 2 years - 20- 40 mg/kg a day in 3 acceptances, for children 2-12 years - 20-50 mg/kg/daily in 3 acceptances depending on the severity of infection.

6. Counterindications

Hypersensitivity, infectious mononucleosis (also while morbilliform rash appears). The drug is to be taken with caution when pregnancy, lactation period, severe liver disease, diseases of intestinal tract, chronic kidney failure.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Caution is needed when intravenous administration in patients who suffer from severe compromised liver functions. When hives or rush appears it is necessary to stop the treatment.
The drug should be administered to the patients who have indications on allergic reactions in the anamnesis (clinical chart).

8. Interface with Other Medications

Joint acceptance of Augmentin with other drugs should be avoided.

9. Overdosing

Symptoms: compromised intestinal tract function and water-electrolytic balance.

10. Side Effects

On the part of digestive system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, compromised liver function.
Allergic reactions: cutaneous eruptions of various kinds, anaphylactic shock, angioneurotic edema.
Others: candidiasis, progression of superinfection.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

It is not recommended to take the drug during pregnancy (especially in the first trimester) and breastfeeding.

12. Driving

Augmentin does not have negative effect on the ability to drive vehicles or work with mechanisms.
