3. Indications for Use.

Infectious-inflammatory disease provoked by the microorganisms sensitive to the drug:
   – pharingitis;
   – tonsillitis;
   – sinusitis;
   – acute and chronic bronchitis;
   – otitis media;
   – uncomplicated infections of urinary tracts;
   – gonococcal infection of urinary tract and neck of the womb.

4. Action

Pluripotential antibiotic. The drug performs bacteriostatically. It is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.

5. Posology and Administration

Posology and administration are set up strictly individually in compliance with diagnosis and a phasic form of disease.
The drug is to be taken orally. In an average daily dose for adults and children over 12 years of age and the body mass more than 50 kg a dose should be 400 mg once daily or 200 mg twice daily. A daily dose for children with the body mass of less than 50 kg is 3-9 mg/kg, if needed a dose may be increased up to 12 mg/kg. Repetition factor for adults will be 2 times daily, for children it will be 2-3 times daily. Average length of treatment is 7-10 days. In children of less than 12 of age the drug is administered in the form of suspension, in a dose of 8 mg/kg once daily or 4 mg/kg every 12 hours. For children of 5-11 years of age a daily dose of suspension is 6-10 ml, in 2-4 years of age - 5 ml, for babies from 6 months to 1 year is 2.5-4 ml.

6. Counterindications

   – hypersensitivity to Cefixime
   – pregnancy and lactation period.
   – infancy under 6 months of age.

The drug should be used with caution in elderly age, kidneys failure, colitis (in case history).

Symptoms: enhancement of manifestations of the described side effects.

10. Side Effects

Allergic reactions: skin itching, itching in the zone of genitals, various manifestations of skin allergic rash, fever. On the part of nervous system: headache, dizziness, noise in the ears. On the part of urogenital system: vaginitis. On the part of urine system: compromised kidneys function. On the part of intestinal system: nausea, vomiting, stomatitis, and diarrhea, pain in the stomach, constipation, dysbacteriosis, and yellow illness.
Others: labored breathing, compromised blood formation function and change of blood composition.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Cefixime may be used in pregnancy only in cases when a supposed favor for the mother exceeds a potential risk for the fetus.
If there is a need to apply Cefixime in lactation period breast-feeding should be cancelled.
